Birth charts · Starry Bodies
A chart you can enter.
A natal chart describes the positions of the planets at a birth moment. Starry Bodies makes the wheel an instrument: select a planet, house or aspect and read the interpretation beside the geometry.
Make your birth chartFree to begin. No account needed to cast or download a chart.
Three details open the wheel.
Enter a date, local birth time and birthplace. Tropical is the default. Chart options lets you choose sidereal instead, with Lahiri, Fagan–Bradley, Raman or Krishnamurti as the reference. Whole-sign houses and mean lunar nodes are the initial settings.
The birthplace search supplies coordinates and a time zone. You can inspect or edit both. If a clock time occurred twice during a daylight-saving change, choose the first or second occurrence explicitly; a nonexistent local time is not silently shifted.
Read what you can point to.
Tap a planet to highlight its position and open the body reading. Tap an aspect to see the two bodies, measured separation, aspect type and orb alongside the interpretation. House context and sign dignity labels help place each detail within the chart.
The standard wheel includes aspects to the Ascendant, Descendant, Midheaven, Imum Coeli, lunar nodes and Chiron. Customize wheel lets you adjust aspect sets, orb allowances, visible bodies, line weight and colour. Optional asteroids and minor bodies are off by default.
Choose a method. Keep it visible.
The tropical zodiac begins at the March equinox. Sidereal zodiacs use a selected stellar reference, expressed as an ayanamsa. Changing that reference changes sign longitudes. Starry Bodies labels the chosen zodiac and house system rather than blending them into an unnamed result.
Seven house systems are available: whole sign, Placidus, equal, Porphyry, Regiomontanus, Campanus and Koch. Some quadrant systems cannot be calculated at certain high latitudes and moments. The Studio reports that limitation and lets you select another system.
An unknown time is useful information.
Choose “I don’t know the time” for a date-based chart. The calculator samples the local civil day and reports planetary ranges and possible sign changes. It does not assign a guessed Ascendant or present noon houses as your own.
This is a different level of certainty, not a failed chart. Read the stable placements first. Precise angles, astrocartography and techniques that require an exact birth moment remain unavailable.
Common questions
A little more clarity.
Can I calculate a birth chart for free?
Yes. You can cast charts, select planets and aspects, explore the Earth map when the time is known, and download your work without signing in. Full natal Sun, Moon and Ascendant readings and useful summaries are included in the free edition.
Can I choose sidereal astrology?
Yes. Switch the zodiac to Sidereal and choose Lahiri, Fagan–Bradley, Raman or Krishnamurti. The wheel, houses and readings follow the selected method. Tropical remains the default.
Which astronomical engine does Starry Bodies use?
The web calculator uses Swiss Ephemeris 2.10.03 through WebAssembly, with Swiss ephemeris data files and apparent geocentric planetary positions. The numerical implementation is checked against native Swiss Ephemeris reference calculations.
Why are two astrology sites showing different aspects?
Compare the birth instant, time zone, zodiac, house and node models, visible points, aspect set and orb allowances. The Studio shows its settings and measured orbs so those differences can be inspected.
Can I keep a chart without an account?
You can download it, or opt to remember one last chart in this browser. A private chart library and notes across devices belong to the full edition. Browser storage can be cleared by your device and is not a backup.
